Funeral services for William Baxter “Billy“ Abel, 88, of Petal, Mississippi, formerly of Duck Hill, are at 2 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2015 at the National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada with Bro. Mark Nail and Bro. Tim Buchanan officiating. Special music will be provided by Stacy Gilder. Burial will follow in the Duck Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Abel, Brad Mills, Dan James, Grady Abel, Edwin Burt and Tim Owens. Honorary pallbearers will include Gary Kirk, Frankie James, Charles Holmes, Larry Long, Scott Abel, Keith Norris, Goldie Burt, Greg Holmes, Willie Everette Burt and the Duck Hill Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class.

Visitation is Sunday, July 26th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at National Funeral Home.

Billy died Friday, July 24, 2015 at his home in Petal, Mississippi.

He was born in Grenada, Mississippi on May 1, 1927 and was the son of the late Marvin Green Abel, Sr, and Jewel Alexander Abel.

Billy was a cotton farmer and cattleman. He was a member of the Duck Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Abel is survived by is wife, Dorothy Nail Abel of Petal: one daughter, Debbie Abel Irby (Robert) of Petal; one sister, Sara James (Jack) of Calhoun City; one brother, Marvin G. Abel, Jr. of Duck Hill; one grandson, W. Tyson Vanlandingham (Emily) of New Orleans, Louisiana; one great-grandson, Grayson Vanlandingham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
