Memoriam

Carolyn LaGrone Massey, age 81, of Moundville, died June 14, 2015, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South. Visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Massey; brother, Charles LaGrone; mother, Vera LaGrone Barton; and father, Herman LaGrone.
Survivors include her daughters, Charlotte Terrell and Judy Cole (Barry); sons, William J. Massey, Jr. (Diane) and Charles Massey (Diane); grandchildren, Corey Cole (Heather), David Cole (Sophie), Mary Katherine Cole, Josh Cole, Brett Averette (Alaca), Brannon Averette (Leslie), Michael Pulling, Mitchell Massey, and Lori Kimbrell (David); and 17 great-grandchildren.
Carolyn was born in 1933 to a farming family. She graduated from Hale County High School in 1952. She worked at Vanity Fair, Coed-Collar, Dr. Wayne May, and ended her working career at K-Way Manufactory Co. in Moundville. Afterwards, she continued to work on the farm, raising cows, pigs, and many orphaned animals. Wild or tame, she had a heart for them all. People would find sick animals and bring them to her to nurse back to life.
Honorary pallbearers are Lucious Johnson, Corey Cole, Brett Averette, David Cole, Brannon Averette, Mitchell Massey, Mike Taylor, Michael Pulling, Lori Massey Kimbrell, Mary Katherine Cole, James Malone, Chase Cook, Dr. Larry Skelton, and the medical staff at DCH.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wannabe Rescued at wannaberescued.org due to her love for animals.
