Memoriam

Patricia Kaye Smith Bishop passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015, at home after her valiant fight against cancer. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and professor. Mimi, as she was affectionately referred to by her grand children, enjoyed living life to the fullest through her travels, teaching, and spending time with her family and friends. Patricia was a beloved professor of Psychology at Cleveland State for more than 40 years where she influenced the lives of countless students. Throughout her distinguished career at Cleveland State, she received numerous awards and accolades including Faculty Emeritus, Distinguished Faculty Member, and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Distinguished Chapter and Regional Coordinator Awards. Even in her final days, she maintained her strong will, sense of purpose, and compassion for others.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Betty Smith, her infant daughter, Jennifer Blake Fuller, her grand daughter, Ashley Daniel Bishop, and her sister, Dr. Linda Painter.
She is survived by Dan Bishop, of Chattanooga, her children, Kevin Blake Bishop (Renee) of Cleveland, Joshua Brook Bishop (Kelly) of Knoxville and Rebecca Bishop Hillman (Jason) of Los Angeles. She was a loving Mimi to her grandchildren Tanner Blake Bishop, Savanah Brook Bishop, Emma Ryan Hillman, Madeleine Parker Hillman, Mary Grace Bishop, Brooks William Bishop and one great grandchild, Zander Kincaid. Other family members include, Sammy Shirley, Kenneth Smith, Johnny Smith, Bill Dethro and many special friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 22, 2015 from noon until 3 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home & Crematory with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m.
