Memoriam

Funeral services for Thomas A, (Pete) Woods, 83, of Duck Hill, are at 2 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2015 at the National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery near Duck Hill.

Visitation is Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at National Funeral Home.

Mr. Woods died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at his home.

Pete was born on April 24, 1931 in Montgomery County to the late Claud Woods, Sr. and Edna Wiggins Woods.

Mr. Woods was retired from Heatcraft. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and a veteran of U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Pete was affectionately known as the Walking Man for always walking Dale Road. He was also well known for making his tin men. He loved the Lord and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Agnes Johnson, Mary Francis Woods, Sarah Robinson, and Rose Grantham; and seven brothers, L.Q. Woods, Bobby Nelson Woods, Claud (Monk) Woods, Jr., Benjamin Woods, Henry Woods, Arthur Lee Woods, and an infant brother.

Pete is survived by his wife, Lillie Dale Patton Woods of Duck Hill; two daughters, Becky Shepherd (Kenneth) and Barbara Bailey (Paul) of Duck Hill; two sons, Tommy Woods (Donna) of Grenada and Tim Woods (Stephanie) of Duck Hill; two brothers, James Woods of Elliott and M.C. Woods of Grenada; one sister, Patricia Cummins of Elliott; 14 grandchildren, Kevin Shepherd, Kim Shepherd, Krystal Kipapa, Bridget Lamb, April Abel, Nikki Woods, Blake Guinn, Amber Guinn, Matt Miletello, Kayla Ross, Karly Woods, Blake Woods, Samantha Stroup and Steven Stroup; 12 great-grandchildren and a longtime family friend and “adopted” son, Ken Sanford..

Memorials may be made to St. Jude‘s Children‘s Hospital or Unity Baptist Church.
