Memoriam

Funeral services for Gerald Wayne Ricks, 72, of Carrollton, are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Carroll County with Dr. Joseph Sansing officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ricks, Kevin Strickland, Jimmy Ellett, Jay Ricks, Brett Pugh, and Mark Stiles. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Rozier, Ronnie Rozier, and T.J. Nabors.

Visitation is Tuesday from noon until service time at New Bethel Baptist Church.

Gerald died Friday, March 6, 2015 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

He was born on April 28, 1942 in Greenville, Mississippi and was the son of James Thomas Ricks and Mildred Reeves Ricks.

Gerald was employed as a millwright. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War and being honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. During his service, Gerald received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars; the Parachutist Badge; the Army Commendation Medal; the Vietnam Campaign Medal; a Purple Heart; and a Bronze Star Medal.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers, James E. Ricks, Eddie Max Ricks, and Jackie Ray Ricks, Sr.

Gerald is survived by two daughters, Paulla Hockaday of Tacoma, Washington and Krista Ricks of Puyallup, Washington; three grandchildren, Erik, Justin and Ashley Hockaday; and several nieces and nephews.

National Funeral Home is in charge.
