Gale Franks, 89, passed away March 7, 2015 in a Hamilton County healthcare facility.
He was a member of Valley View Baptist Church and highly regarded as a leader serving as a deacon and choir member. He was also active in day to day activities in the church.
Mr. Franks served in the US Army in Guam during World War II. He received the Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Stella Franks, two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by wife Geraldyne Franks of Cleveland; children: Roger Franks and wife, Debra of Soddy Daisy; Ginger Sweeton and husband, Marlin of Chattanooga; and Andrea James and husband Chris of Ringgold, GA.; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Brown and husband, Fred of Cleveland, Bobbie Harris of Cleveland, Nancy McGehee of Lake Lanier, GA. and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 9, 2015 from 4 -8 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
