NORTHPORT | John Billy ""Bill"" Tidwell, 81, of Northport, died April 7, 2015. Services will be held at Carroll's Creek Baptist Church on April 9 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Alan Roggli and Rev. Don Springer officiating. Burial will follow at Studdard's Cross Roads Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be April 9 at 10 a.m. at the church.
He is preceded in death by a son, Johnny Wayne Tidwell; brothers, Bradley and James Tidwell; and sisters, Ruth Stokes, Mable Phillips and Mary Webb.
Survivors include his spouse of 62 years, Frances Johnston Tidwell of Northport; daughter, Karan (Jim) Thompson of Gulf Shores, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Chris Faulkner Tidwell of Holt, Ala.; sisters, Kate Box of Northport and Vera Nell Sands of Bankston; grandchildren, Russell ""Rusty"" (Carman) Tidwell and Kerry (Jacqueline) Tidwell.
Bill retired from the University of Alabama as maintenance supervisor and was a member of Carroll's Creek Baptist where he was a deacon for more than 30 years. Devoted to God and his family, Bill's greatest pleasures were serving the Lord, helping others and spending time with his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Tidwell, Kerry Tidwell, Jerry Rogers, Wilford Calhoun, Phillip Gurganus and Chris Dunn.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Carroll's Creek Baptist and AlaCare Hospice nurses and staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carroll's Creek Baptist Building Fund or a charity of choice
Visitation will be April 9 at 10 a.m. at the church.
